Einstein Says: Send Smart!

Screen Shot 2018-11-07 at 10.51.16 AM

Last week, David blogged about our upcoming webinar with Zeta Global during which we’ll be digging into our 2018 consumer survey data and highlighting buying patterns, attitudes, and behaviors. It’s going to be an excellent session – we’ll go deep and wide – but I wanted to take this opportunity to highlight a single data point that all marketers need to be mindful of, especially during the holidays: message frequency.

Many consumers do not appreciate the increased volumes of irrelevant email they receive over the holidays, especially as more consumers engage with their email predominantly through their mobile device. Over half the consumers we surveyed reported that they received messages from brands at too fast a cadence and 36% said that the messages they received were not relevant and thus irritating. Twenty-three percent reported that messages they received on their phones weren’t formatted optimally for the small screen, which is surprising to me and concerning, to say the least.

Tune in next week to get the full picture and our take, but until then, send smart: manage your message cadence carefully and ensure the content you share is engaging and driving positive customer experiences – this holiday more users are going to be on devices and reaching for wallets after they’ve reached for their phone.

Paris France and Why Location and Big Data Collection Are Good For Life

When I learned of the 11/13/15 Paris France Terror Attacks via an email alert from Twitter, I soaked in the moment, my emotions got the best of me; tears; anger; concern. Thinking of friends and colleagues there as well as every other human that I didn’t know in that city.

I went to Facebook and posted this “We France Flagmust all unite against Terror and stand with Paris, France. Think/pray for the victims, rally for eradicating such moments.” Shortly there after, I changed my Facebook profile picture to an image of the French Flag. I suggested that people use and share this in symbol of support for France against these attacks. Only right.

Why am I writing about this here?  Well Facebook quickly did a fantastic thing. They allowed people, including some friends of mine to share, based on their location and data that they had about these friends of mine to say, that they were okay. Thankfully right now for me and my family, all of our friends across generations have checked in okay. How did we know this within the last hours? Facebook. What would we have done without such a service?

Without such access to Data and Location and format Big Data in this way, that manifests to say this loved person is safe. Well! That is a relevant broadcast of info! If you did not get to reach your US person in France,  please call 1 888 407 4747.

There is tremendous good that companies can do when they begin to think holistically about the data that they have.   I am hopeful that perhaps the same data exists to focus on and stomp out the evil doers that perpetuated such heinous cowardness acts on innocent humanity.

Data may be one way to focus; but if we don’t hear it all before it happens, then it is too late.

I have lived through Terror loss before, and I pray for the French and the people that will wake up tomorrow alone, without the person that Terror took. These days will get longer, stay strong.

The answers are complicated, but also can be exact like a razor to begin to cut through the most complex issue of our time. This is what we should be discussing, not what a disposable landfill coffee cup looks like. Until then, I look forward to such a discussion of how to eradicate Terror.

How to Inspire and Collect User-Generated Content

How to Inspire and Collect User-Generated Content

Erik J. Martin | Sep 30, 2015 | The Relevancy Group VP , Nicholas Einstein contributing.

If the last 10 years have taught us anything, it’s that virtually anybody can be an author, photographer, videographer, voiceover talent, or subject matter expert-thanks to ubiquitous tools like smartphones, blogs, and social media sites that allow everyday people to post and publish text, photos, video, and audio galore. Which begs the question for companies: Why not tap into these public resources more often as a free and valuable source of content for your brands and products?

Hacking is Terrorism

If you know me, you know security it is a passion of mine. I have been happy to give back as a Strategic Advisor to the OTA (Online Trust Alliance).  I believe that without security, the whole notion of the trust of the Internet and online commerce implodes.

We should hold media and the press to a standard not to discuss the stolen good from a cyber attack.  Protect the victims of the attack, it is akin to media in the 1980’s with the blue dot over a victims face. Why should this crime be different?  Media is fanning the fire of this cyber attack against Sony, and it is truly now a war. Why? Because just a few hours ago the US government stated with high certainty that these attacks were state sponsored and that North Korea was behind them (source WSJ).

Turn a Negative into a Positive – My Solution for Sony and This Movie

the interviewThe best answer for Sony amid these proven North Korean Terrorist acts is to release The Interview on demand/streaming for $10 on 12/25. It will turn a negative into a positive, also test the audience for new releases for streaming in home. It would take 5 million viewers to make their money back, but I believe it would be huge, as big as their predicted $60 million dollar open. Stand up to terror/cyber attacks!

We must stand up against state sponsored attacks. Every business needs to be ready, in fact The Online Trust Alliance has been working on this for years.

From prevention to reaction resources. There are many wonderful reports and collaboration moments that provide effectiveness.   It will improve your market presence and when following OTA best practices your ability to be spoofed will be diminished.

I believe in this organization, if I didn’t I wouldn’t be a Strategic Advisor to the Online Trust Alliance.

Please, if you have an online business, ensure it is secure, follow the well defined best practices.

I am happy to discuss this over a digital magazine, such as The Marketer Quarterly

Until next time,  all the best,

David
